Jim Johnson, ActionMap co-founder and principal consultant


1971 – B.S. Mathematics, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, California.
Student Body President

1973-1988: Held a variety of technical, managerial, and sales roles, including Programmer, MIS Director, Product Manager, and Sales Representative, building a uniquely integrated understanding of IT operations and business development. 

1988-1993:  Independent consultancy with partner-cofounder-spouse Anne Johnson; developed ActionMap method, delivered over 100 flipchart-based workshops with organizations including HP, Intel, SoCalGas, Target, City of San Leandro

1994-2000:  Principal Consultant, Account Manager at CSC – used method to close $5M in new business in 1998; clients included Hunt-Wesson, Chevron, The Gap

2001- 2002:  Business Development Manager at Adobe; relationships with IBM and other large systems integrators

2003 – 2007:  Wrote business book, developed ActionMap Toolkit software prototype

2008 – 2014:  IT Management role with Kaiser Permanente; Provided cross-functional support to IT executives, including resource planning, reporting, and compliance operations; Led or supported compliance initiatives for SOX, HIPAA, and PCI across multiple departments.

2014 – 2019: Developed commercial-grade version of ActionMap Toolkit software with offshore development team 

2020 – 2021:  Pro bono engagements, market research, test marketing, learning tools

2022: Launched commercial marketing of ActionMap Toolkit, including consulting services and the Early Adopter training program, building on two decades of development and validation.
